The bridge between milk and biscuits. Softens to a mush.
Weaning a litter of small-breed puppies is a fortnight of mess. Milk teeth that barely work, a gut that's only ever handled milk, and four or five puppies who don't yet understand that the bowl is food. Most of the first attempts end up on their faces and in their ears.
This is one food for the whole transition. The kibble rehydrates quickly, so it can be softened to a porridge at first and offered dry as they get the hang of it — no second product, no second changeover. The same bag feeds the mother through the last third of pregnancy and all of nursing, when her energy requirement roughly doubles and she physically cannot eat enough of an ordinary food to keep up. For puppies from weaning to two months, and for the bitch from mating to weaning.
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed. Use within six weeks of opening. Soak the kibble in warm water to a porridge consistency and reduce the water over a fortnight until they're eating it dry. Use a wide, shallow saucer they can all reach. Watch the smallest puppy in the litter — the others will push her off. Weigh each puppy daily for the first fortnight; a puppy who isn't gaining needs a vet, not more food.

Feed the puppies little and often — four or five small meals a day, softened at first. The mother should be fed free-choice from the last third of pregnancy through weaning; she cannot easily overeat at that point. Fresh water for everyone from the moment the puppies are on solids.
