A Mastiff bitch in late pregnancy eats for a small crowd.
A giant-breed bitch at nine weeks gestation is eating over a kilogram of food a day, and she has less room to put it than she's ever had. Concentration is the whole problem: an ordinary food simply cannot deliver what she needs in the volume she can physically hold.
Fat at 22% and protein at 30% solve that, and the feeding table below runs a separate gestation schedule because her requirement climbs week by week rather than stepping up once. The same kibble rehydrates for the puppies at weaning, with betaglucans, prebiotics and psyllium supporting guts meeting solid food. Feed from mating through to the puppies leaving at eight weeks.
Rice, dehydrated poultry protein, animal fats, vegetable protein isolate (L.I.P. — protein selected for its very high digestibility), hydrolysed animal proteins, maize, beet pulp, minerals, soya oil, vegetable fibres, fish oil, fructo-oligo-saccharides, psyllium husks and seeds, hydrolysed yeast (source of manno-oligo-saccharides), fatty acid salt, yeast extracts (source of betaglucans), marigold extract (source of lutein). Additives (per kg) — Nutritional additives: Vitamin A 19,000 IU · Vitamin D3 1,200 IU · E1 (Iron) 42 mg · E2 (Iodine) 4.2 mg · E4 (Copper) 13 mg · E5 (Manganese) 55 mg · E6 (Zinc) 134 mg · E8 (Selenium) 0.07 mg. Technological additives: Clinoptilolite of sedimentary origin 10 g. Preservatives. Antioxidants.
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed. Use within six weeks of opening; decant a 15 kg bag. Split the bitch's daily amount across three or four meals in late pregnancy — she cannot hold it in two. Start puppies on soaked kibble around three weeks, using several wide trays so the smallest isn't crowded out. Weigh every puppy daily for the first fortnight.
