Ostrich — novel protein, local, and with bone crunch in it.
Ostrich hearts, trimmings, liver and lungs at 70%, with 30% fermented vegetables and fruit. It's a genuinely novel protein for almost every dog — she's unlikely ever to have eaten it, so there's been no chance to develop a sensitivity.
Raw Love include what they call bone crunch in the ostrich recipe rather than finely minced bone, which some dogs prefer and which does more for the teeth on the way down.
**This is a complementary food, not a complete one.** Raw Love register every meal as complementary under Act 36 of 1947 — a deliberate choice on their part, not an oversight. It means it is not formulated to meet all of your pet's needs on its own, and fed as the only thing in the bowl over months it will leave gaps.
Raw Love's own guidance is to feed variety across the proteins, add an omega-3 source — they recommend fish at least once a week, since a raw diet is typically short of it — and give raw meaty bones weekly. Do that and it works well. Feed one flavour on its own and nothing else, and it won't. If you're new to raw, talk to us or your vet about building the rest of the diet around it.
70% ostrich meat, 30% fermented vegetables & fruit. Ostrich hearts, trimmings, liver, lungs, spinach, carrots, butternut, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, baby marrow, green beans, parsley, cucumber, Granny Smith apples, papaya, blueberries, kelp, alfalfa sprouts, broccoli sprouts, fenugreek sprouts, rooibos, unfiltered apple cider vinegar, kefir, moringa, diatomaceous earth. Registered as a **complementary** meal with the Department of Agriculture under Act 36 of 1947 — Reg. No. V25718.
Keep it frozen. Take out what you need the night before and let it thaw naturally in the fridge — **never microwave it, and never thaw cat meals in hot water.** Seal and refrigerate between servings, and **do not re-freeze**: it isn't cooked, and thawing twice spoils it. Leave the plate down about half an hour for a fussy eater, then refrigerate and offer again at the next meal. Wash your hands and the bowl after every feed, and don't leave leftovers standing where children or pests can reach them. Colour, texture and fat content vary between batches — that's normal in raw food, not a fault. Raw meaty bones at least once a week alongside this, and **never cooked, braaied or smoked bones** — cooked bone splinters and causes fractured teeth, obstructions and worse. Know whether a bone is edible before you give it, and watch how she handles it.

A guide, not a rule — Raw Love say so themselves, and raw amounts vary more between dogs than kibble does. Start in the middle of her band and adjust by body condition over a fortnight. Puppies need 4–10% of body weight a day across three or four meals; adults twice a day. Fresh water, always.
