Small dogs live longest and age last, which catches owners out — a terrier at seven still behaves like a much younger dog right up until he doesn't.
This is the food to move him onto before the decline is obvious rather than after. The vitality blend targets brain function, energy and engagement, glucosamine and chondroitin support joints that a small frame has been putting more strain on than it looks, and L-carnitine helps a slowing dog stay lean. Omega-3 and omega-6 keep the coat glossy, and rice, barley and oats make it easy on a digestive system that's become less forgiving. The kibble is sized for a small mouth, which sounds trivial until you've watched a Yorkie try to manage large-breed biscuits. For small and mini breeds aged seven and over.

Looking after it
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed. Use within six weeks of opening. Small dogs need very little food, so measure rather than pour — a handful too much is a much bigger proportional error on a 4 kg dog than a 40 kg one. Dental disease is near-universal in small breeds by this age; if his breath has turned, book a check. Fresh water, always.
