The single most useful thing you can do for a large-breed puppy is stop him growing too fast. Skeletons that outpace the muscle and cartilage holding them together are where hip and elbow problems begin, and it happens in the first year whether or not it shows up until the fifth.
Calcium is controlled here at 1.13% with phosphorus at 0.91% — deliberately restrained, because over-feeding calcium to a big puppy causes exactly the developmental problems owners are trying to avoid. Chicken meal leads at 32% for the protein a large frame needs, DHA from fish oil supports brain and eye development, and L-carnitine helps keep him lean while he grows. Feed it to eighteen months rather than twelve; large breeds aren't finished at a year, whatever their size suggests.

Looking after it
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed. Use within six weeks of opening. **Do not add calcium or joint supplements** — this food is balanced deliberately and adding to it causes the skeletal problems it exists to prevent. Keep him lean; you should feel ribs easily under a thin covering. Feed to eighteen months. Split across three meals under four months, then two. Fresh water, always.
