Sterilisation cuts a cat's energy requirement sharply and leaves the appetite where it was. That gap is why so many cats put on weight in the year afterwards, and it's the whole reason this food exists.

Fibre runs at 10% — psyllium husks, pea fibre, beet pulp, inulin and cellulose — which dilutes the energy in the bowl so she feels she's eaten. Glycaemic carbohydrate is held right down to 10% on low-GI brown rice, protein stays high at 35% so she loses fat rather than muscle, and L-carnitine at 0.5 g/kg helps her burn what she does eat. DL-Methionine at 1.5% with controlled magnesium supports urinary pH, which matters more after sterilisation. Duck and lamb carry it, with kaolin for gastric support.

Looking after it

Store in a cool, dry place, sealed. Use within six weeks of opening. Weigh her food on a scale rather than scooping. **Cats must not lose weight fast** — rapid loss can trigger a serious liver condition, so aim for about 1% of body weight a week and see your vet if she stops eating for more than a day or two. Ten minutes of play twice a day does more than cutting the ration further.
